Job Summary

The Center for Women’s Health & Wellness brings together OB/GYN physicians and midwives with specialists in maternal fetal medicine and genetic testing.

Through our affiliation with Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Mass General Brigham our patients also benefit from state-of-the-art care in breast health, cancer care and more.

The Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Center for Women’s Health & Wellness offers a new model for women’s healthcare on the Seacoast.

Inpatient care consists of two Certified Nurse Midwives per shift who work together to provide primary coverage of the Women and Children's unit, with an in-house OB/GYN physician present at all times for consultation, collaboration, or transfer of care when clinically indicated.

The unit is also staffed with 24/7 in-house NICU and anesthesia providers.

Our spacious and comfortable Birth Center welcomes more than 1,700 babies each year, making us the most popular center on the Seacoast.

Private rooms offer mom, baby and family all the comforts of home, while facilitating education of the whole family by our nurses on caring for a new baby and postpartum care.

We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to join our Women's Health team. This unique role will provide a blend of inpatient and outpatient midwifery services, as well as women's behavioral health care. The position consists of 36 hours of direct patient care and 4 hours of administrative time per week. The CNM will divide their clinical responsibilities between inpatient services at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, outpatient OB/GYN care, and women's behavioral health services.

Inpatient responsibilities will be based on the main hospital campus and include coverage of the antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum units. Outpatient midwifery services will be provided at our OB/GYN clinics located at 15 Old Rollinsford Road in Dover, NH, and 67 Corporate Drive in Portsmouth, NH. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Women's behavioral health services will include a combination of in-person and virtual patient visits.

The anticipated weekly schedule includes

  • One (1) 12-hour inpatient
  • CNM shift (7:00 AM–7:00
  • PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
  • One (1) 12-hour outpatient CNM clinic shift
  • One (1) 12-hour women's behavioral health clinic shift (mix of in-person and virtual visits)
  • One (1) 4-hour administrative block

Weekend coverage averages one to two (1–2) 12-hour hospital shifts per month and may include Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday coverage. Holiday responsibilities are shared equitably among providers and rotated evenly from year to year.

Summary Responsible for safe and personalized care to patients in the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and routine GYN settings.

Essential Functions Provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and/or newborn care to patients.

Monitor fetal development by listening to fetal heartbeat, taking external uterine measurements, identifying fetal position, or estimating fetal size and weight.

Document patients' health histories, symptoms, physical conditions, or other diagnostic information.

Provide patients with direct family planning services, such as inserting intrauterine devices, dispensing oral contraceptives, and fitting cervical barriers, including cervical caps or diaphragms.

Prescribe medications as permitted by state regulations.

Develop and implement individualized plans for health care management.

Explain procedures to patients, family members, staff members, or others.

Order and interpret diagnostic or laboratory tests.

Midwife, Certified Nurse [State License] required

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience as a Nurse Midwife is required to be a Midwife II 2-3 years required

  • PMHNP certification strongly preferred
  • Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring through the National Certification Corporation (NCC), or willingness to obtain certification within one year of hire
  • Demonstrated recent obstetrical experience, including a minimum of 20 vaginal births within the past 12 months
  • Experience first-assisting in Cesarean deliveries preferred; candidates without this experience will be expected to complete additional training upon hire
