About the role

The Lab Assistant is responsible for receiving, logging, and preparing specimens for technical testing while maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment. They also provide support to staff regarding blood drawing requirements and manage laboratory reports.

Our Lab in Latham is hiring a full-time Lab Assistant to join their team! The hours are Monday-Friday from 11:30am-7:00pm. This position may also be filled by a Medical Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in receiving, logging and collecting specimens; prepare specimens for technical testing.
  • Assist with identification and labeling of specimens; store and distribute specimens
  • File reports and laboratory results.
  • Support staff in all CCP sites on blood drawing requirements and use computer expertise to assist co-workers.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment by cleaning areas daily, washing counters, emptying trash containers, cleaning up spills, preparing bio hazardous materials for departure, and all other duties necessary to sustain an appropriate work area.

Compensation

$16.00 - $20.00 per hour

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional education desirable.
  • Minimum two years' experience in a laboratory, preferably in medical practice setting. Experience in a medical office may be substituted for laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality and discretion.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and at least two years of experience in a laboratory or medical office setting. Proficiency in laboratory techniques, medical terminology, and computer skills is required.
