About the role

The APRN provides comprehensive health assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for clinic patients under physician supervision. This role involves ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests while working within a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care.

Job Description

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides a comprehensive health assessment and evaluation for patients in the clinic under the supervision of the medical director. This position provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a physician including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. This position works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care. The APRN orders and interprets appropriate tests i.e. labs, EKG, and Xrays under physician supervision.

Responsibilities

What you will do Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through interviews and chart reviews; assessing presenting illness, risk factors, and family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; and performing appropriate examination. Orders or performs appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians for evaluation of illness. Integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks. Develops and implements treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance. Participates in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patient. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits according to treatment plan including triaging patient calls/e-mails. Functioning in a “First Assist” capacity to physician in the operating room, as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws. If applicable.

Qualifications: Minimum Education Education must comply with state licensing board education requirements Required

Minimum Work Experience 0-1 year Relevant experience in developing and running patient care programs.

Licenses and Certifications Advanced Practitice Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required

  • Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities.
  • Using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills.
  • Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients Skill in usage of medical diagnostic equipment, as well as working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform clinical procedures and physical examinations.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Access), database management, and electronic medical records systems and document preparation.
  • Knowledge of insurance and medical terminology, coding, collections, and federal / state laws governing medical compliance.
  • Ability to document and utilize electronic health record applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.

Requirements

Candidates must be a licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Florida and hold a BLS certification. Minimum experience of 0-1 year in patient care programs is required along with proficiency in EMR systems.
