Perform high-level MRI procedures including patient positioning and the operation of scanning equipment. Ensure patient safety and comfort while maintaining strict adherence to magnetic safety protocols.
The MR technologist works under the direction and supervision of the Radiology Manager, Radiology Assistant Manager and Lead MRI Technologist to perform MRI procedures at a high technical level not requiring constant supervision. The Technologist assumes responsibility for the safety of their patients and colleagues in their designated work area and takes corrective action when necessary to maintain such safety. The role involves significant patient interaction, technical skill, and adherence to strict safety protocols. . Principal Accountabilities:
1.
Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to area of interest, following protocols requested by Radiologist.
2.
Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination.
3.
Enters data, such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into computer.
4.
Keys commands to specify scan sequences and adjust transmitters and receivers into computer.
5.
Observes patient through window of control room and on closed circuit TV screen to monitor patient safety and comfort.
6.
Views images of areas being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures.
7.
Keys in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images.
8.
Alerts staff entering magnet room to the danger of wearing or carrying metal around magnet.
9.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
