Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is looking for a Surgical Tech III position working full-time during the Day, in our Main OR. We currently have some flexibility on our schedules and 10, 12, and 8 hour shifts may be considered. The Surgical Tech III demonstrates through clinical practice, a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service. Responsibilities

Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon. Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure. Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure. Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation. Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty. Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least 2 surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction). Prepares and conducts technical performance-oriented training related to specialty service. Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and/or second circulates on major tertiary procedures. Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles. In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development. Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility. May have limited access to areas storing medications. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of: Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program Licensure/Certification Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Experience Four (4) year surgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience).

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and completion of a Surgical Technology training program. Must have four years of experience, or a CST certification with two years of experience, and current BLS certification.
