  • Shift: AnyUnder general supervision of the Inpatient Unit Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurses, the Inpatient Unit Nursing Assistant provides basic nursing care requiring knowledge and application of standard procedures and instructions and supports the nursing staff. Duties & Responsibilities

Provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the CNA’s scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs. Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the CNA’s scope of practice. Meets communication needs of patients and families. Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a CNA. Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patient. Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. Demonstrates ability to communicate to the Registered Nurse (RN) any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the geriatric and general patient population. Demonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s age and physical condition. Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient; answers questions within scope of practice. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice Communicates appropriately and clearly to RN, co-workers, and health care providers. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, including geriatric and general population. Demonstrates an ability to assist health care providers with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations. Demonstrates ability to take and record all vital signs and communicates with RN on any abnormal or critical values. Reports any unusual conditions or emergencies to RN or health care provider. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Interacts in an honest, trustworthy, and dependable manner with patient/family, employees, visitors and vendors. Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Ensures medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatment and special procedures. Maintains regular attendance and punctuality. Transports patients to other areas in the facility as needed. Performs and obtains tests and procedures, such as EKGs, cardiac monitoring lead placements, weights/heights, point of care waived tests (rapid flu, HgbA1C, glucose reading, UA, etc.). Ensures patient rooms and equipment are properly cleaned and restocked after patient care and between patients. Performs general maintenance duties after all patient care needs are met, including cleaning, arranging and restocking supply cupboards; cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment; calling attention to deficiencies in supplies and equipment; cleaning utility room; and bagging soiled linens. These maintenance duties will not supersede patient care assignments or requested tasks. Maintains a clean and safe patient environment. Provides medical interpretation as needed. Requires completion of tasks or duties assigned by a supervisor. Upholds all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent. Adheres to all professional and ethical behavior standards of the healthcare industry. Adheres to WIHCCs Personnel Policies and Procedures, departmental policies, rules, and regulations. Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity. Maintains compliance with all Human Resources requirements. Performs other duties as assigned. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED is required. Credentialing as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) is required. One year nursing assistant experience is required. A valid BLS/CPR certification is required. Bilingual skills in English and Navajo language is preferred. Must maintain a valid unrestricted and insurable driver’s license. Must successfully pass a background investigation and maintain suitable requirements for a Child Care position. This position is considered as a Child Care position, which requires a satisfactory background check investigation and is subject to the requirements of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, as amended (henceforth referred as the ICPFVP Act). Knowledge, Skills, Ability: Knowledge and skill sufficient to readily acquire orientation to the organization, the nursing environment, its staff members and operating procedures. Knowledge and skill sufficient to meet the personal hygiene needs of patients for the purpose of adding good health practices and to provide comfort measures. Knowledge of, and skill sufficient to use, nursing care terminology and test for measuring and recording vital signs; for obtaining and labeling specimens, and for assisting inpatient examinations for the purpose of accomplishing needed care and communicating with patients, health care providers, and nurses. Knowledge and skill sufficient to provide safety, security, privacy for the patients and to keep patient information confidential. Knowledge of strong work ethics in the workplace. Knowledge of basic application of confidentiality. Knowledge of basic computer skills, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to safely use transportation equipment such as gurneys, wheelchairs, Hoyer lift. Ability to be dependable in attendance and job performance. Ability to accept and learn from feedback. Ability to meet attendance, overtime (if necessary), and other reliability requirements of the job. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to provide exemplary customer service at all times. Ability to interact positively with others and possess great interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure. Ability to have self-confidence. Ability to be a great team player. Ability to accept and learn from supervisor/peer critique. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the organization. Physical Demands: While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects and equipment, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively by talking and hearing. The employee frequently must stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and may occasionally use taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting or outdoor work environment with moderate noise levels. Work environment may involve exposure to physical risks, such as blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, or operating potential dangerous equipment, and requires adherence to all safety protocols. Required work schedules may include evening, weekend, overnight shifts, extended hours, or irregular schedules as operational needs dictate. As required by P.L. 93-638, absolute preference will be given to qualified Navajo applicants. If there is no qualified Navajo applicant, preference will be given to qualified American Indian applicants.

Requirements

Requires a High School Diploma or GED and valid CNA or LNA credentialing. Candidates must have at least one year of nursing assistant experience and a current BLS/CPR certification.
