About the role

Responsible for receiving, accessioning, and processing specimens within the microbiology laboratory. The role involves handling phone inquiries, managing lab supplies, and collaborating with Medical Laboratory Scientists.

Responsible for receiving and processing specimens. Accession specimens in laboratory information system. Handle incoming phone calls and assisting with general lab supply management. Work in conjunction with Medical Laboratory Scientists.

Responsibilities

  • 1.
  • Understands and adheres to Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors 2.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures and their execution 3.
  • Handle telephone inquiries, transfer as needed 4.
  • Receive, accession and process specimens in order to ensure timely reporting of results.
  • Ensures positive patient identification 5.
  • Perform registration in HIS as needed 6.
  • Process reference lab testing as needed 7.
  • Independently troubleshoot specimen-related problems 8.
  • Assist with inventory and supply management, including supplies to others hospitals and/or customers 9.
  • Maintain hardware and equipment as needed 10.
  • Uses computer programs in laboratory and hospital-based systems to ensure accurate data entry and retrieval 11.
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION HS Diploma or equivalency exam EXPERIENCE Experience not required SPECIAL SKILLS Excellent communication skills and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills Consistently interacts with coworkers and customers in a positive manner.
  • Cooperatively and proactively assists in other areas as needed in a teamwork-oriented environment.
  • Maintains procedure knowledge and implements all new and revised procedures in real-time.
  • Maintains all Quality Control and Quality Assurance standards at all times.
