About the role

Performs diagnostic tests including stress tests, Holter monitoring, and EKGs for adult and pediatric patients. Collaborates with cardiologists and medical staff to ensure high-quality test results and manages medical record documentation.

Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Technician assists in performing simple and complex diagnostic tests in the Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory on adult and pediatric patients. Performs treadmill stress tests, Holter/Event monitoring hookup and scanning, cardiopulmonary stress testing, and electrocardiograms. Recognizes cardiac dysrhythmia and life threatening arrhythmias and initiates emergency resuscitation measures as needed. Provides care in the cardiac diagnostic laboratory to assure highest quality tests results. Works closely with Cardiologist, Cardiology Fellows, Residents, Nurses and Students to guarantee optimal stress test quality. Transcribes results and prepares records for physician interpretation. May do scheduling, patient charges, supply ordering, stocking, and report generation and retrieval as required. Records treatment and diagnostic information for the medical record. Utilizes independent judgment and initiative appropriately. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience

Associate of Science Degree from a two year program preferred. Minimum one year of stress testing experience in either adult or pediatric preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Excellent knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, patient care, dysrhythmia recognition, and specialized techniques as required. Ability to perform algebraic calculations; ability to interpret data and critical thinking skills required. Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook; Assembly, operate and troubleshooting patient/machine equipment; patient assessment; preventative maintenance, calibration of equipment and basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications

Basic life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
