Position Overview

The Surgery Veterinary Technician plays a critical role in supporting advanced surgical procedures while providing exceptional nursing care to surgical patients throughout every stage of treatment.

This position requires advanced technical skills, strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to remain calm and efficient in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment.

Working closely with our board-certified surgeons, anesthetists, emergency doctors, and specialty teams, you will help deliver outstanding surgical outcomes while supporting our growing surgery service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-operative assessments and diagnostics
  • Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Monitor patient vital signs throughout surgical procedures
  • Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields
  • Assist surgeons during advanced orthopedic, soft tissue, neurologic, and emergency surgical procedures
  • Perform surgical instrument preparation, sterilization, and inventory management
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately
  • Provide exceptional post-operative nursing care
  • Monitor hospitalized surgical patients and communicate changes promptly
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, and patient monitoring
  • Educate clients regarding surgical procedures, discharge instructions, and home care
  • Maintain accurate treatment records and medical documentation
  • Collaborate with Emergency, ICU, Internal Medicine, and Specialty departments
  • Support a positive, professional, and emotionally intelligent workplace culture

Required Qualifications

Surgery or Emergency Veterinary Technician experience is required.

Candidates must possess

  • Minimum of 2 years of Surgery and/or Emergency Veterinary Technician experience
  • Strong anesthesia monitoring skills
  • Experience assisting with advanced surgical procedures
  • Excellent patient nursing skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced specialty environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • CVT, LVT, or RVT preferred but not required
  • Specialty hospital experience preferred
  • Advanced anesthesia monitoring experience
  • Orthopedic and soft tissue surgical experience preferred
  • Emergency surgery experience highly desirable
  • Experience with ezyVet and/or VetRadar is a plus
  • RECOVER CPR certification is a plus
  • Leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
  • Technical Skills Desired

Schedule Opportunities

We are currently hiring for Surgery Veterinary Technician shifts including

  • 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Weekend and holiday coverage may be required based on hospital needs.

This position also participates in a rotating on-call schedule to assist with emergency surgical procedures after normal business hours.

Candidates must be flexible and willing to participate in the on-call rotation to help provide life-saving emergency surgical care.
