About the role

The nurse provides intraoperative care for patients undergoing GI endoscopic procedures and assists physicians throughout the process. Responsibilities include patient preparation, procedure room setup, and maintaining accurate clinical documentation.

The Endoscopy/GI Registered Nurse specializes in providing care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopies, colonoscopies, and other GI-related diagnostics and treatments. This role involves supporting patients intraoperative care, while maintaining patient safety, and assisting physicians throughout the process. This role is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient completion of GI procedures and providing a positive patient experience throughout the care continuum.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Patient Preparation: Verify patient identity, procedure, and ensure informed consent is completed. Provide emotional support to the patient and family members
  • Procedure Room Setup: Arrange and prepare the procedure room with all necessary equipment and supplies, adjusting as needed to ensure smooth workflow
  • Patient Safety and Positioning: Assist in positioning the patient safely and comfortably for the procedure, ensuring any devices or supports are securely in place
  • Documentation: Accurately document the procedure, including times, personnel present, supplies used, and any critical events or changes during the procedure
  • Collaboration and Communication: Serve as a liaison between the procedure team and other departments, relaying messages or acquiring additional supplies or equipment as needed
  • Environmental Monitoring: Monitor for and maintain a safe, check functionality of lighting, temperature, and equipment setup as necessary to support the procedure

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience in endoscopy/gastroenterology, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of endoscopic equipment, patient monitoring, and sedation protocols
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or possession of an active multi-state Registered Nurse license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon start
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is optional and can be obtained within six months of hire, as applicable per ASC location
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional patient communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team

Requires at least one year of experience in endoscopy or gastroenterology and a valid Registered Nurse license for Virginia or a multi-state license. BLS certification is mandatory, and ACLS is preferred or required within six months of hire.
