About the role

Provides direct and indirect care to patients, including nutrition, hygiene, and safety measures under nursing supervision. Focuses on ED decompression and delivering high-quality inpatient care for Medical-Surgical and Cardiac patients in the ED Hold Unit.

The Patient Care Technician provides a variety of indirect and direct care, including provision for patient's dependency needs such as nutrition, hygiene, safety, and physical and psychological comfort measures, to patient and significant others, under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.

Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision, and values.

Work is primarily performed in patient settings.

Extensive interaction with patients, staff, physicians, family members and visitors.

Lifting, bending, stooping and exposure to blood borne pathogens.

This position has been evaluated as a Level 1 in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) definition of occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.

The ED Hold Unit is a specialized inpatient nursing department located within the Emergency Department.

Staffed by a dedicated inpatient nursing team, this unit provides care for admitted Medical-Surgical and Cardiac patients under both inpatient and observation status.

Care begins in the Emergency Department and is delivered in close collaboration with the ED nursing team.

Patients with inpatient status are transferred to inpatient units as beds become available, while those under observation remain in the ED Hold Unit for the duration of their stay.

Department Priorities ED Decompression: Rapidly assume care once admission orders are placed to alleviate ED congestion.

Safe, High-Quality Care: Deliver inpatient-level care in non-traditional ED spaces with a focus on safety and excellence.

Efficient Care Progression: Promote purposeful care planning to reduce length of stay and support timely transitions.

High school diploma or G.E.D required. Florida CNA license required. Hospital PCT/CNA experience preferred. Nursing students: currently enrolled in a Nursing program (ASN or BSN) and have completed Fundamentals of Nursing (must submit unofficial transcript with application).

Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D and a valid Florida CNA license. Nursing students who have completed Fundamentals of Nursing are also eligible.
