The Kearney Center is seeking a compassionate and motivated Outreach Specialist to connect with individuals experiencing homelessness throughout our community.

This role is about meeting people where they are—both physically and emotionally—to build trust, provide essential resources, and connect them with services that can change their lives.

As an Outreach Specialist, you’ll spend time in the community engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness, providing meals and basic necessities, offering encouragement, and helping clients take the next step toward housing, healthcare, employment, and long-term stability.

Every interaction is an opportunity to build trust and create hope.

What You’ll Do Conduct outreach throughout the community to engage individuals experiencing homelessness.

Build trusting relationships through compassionate, respectful, and consistent interactions.

Distribute meals, hygiene supplies, and other essential resources.

Connect clients with shelter, housing, healthcare, mental health, employment, and community resources.

Document outreach activities and client information accurately in HMIS.

Transport clients when appropriate to appointments or shelter services.

Collaborate with community partners to coordinate services and improve client outcomes.

Serve as a positive ambassador for The Kearney Center throughout the community.

What We’re Looking For Passion for serving individuals experiencing homelessness.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.

Experience in outreach, case management, social services, behavioral health, or a related field is preferred.

Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and professional in a variety of community settings.

Valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Experience with case management and homelessness services preferred Bachelor's degree in social work or related human services preferred

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills Good working knowledge of local resources Compassionate and open-minded Commitment to practicing the values of dignity and respect with clients, coworkers, and community partners Ability to remain focused and calm in dynamic, fast-paced environment Ability to work independently and utilize initiative Cooperative and flexible with people and systems Ability to collaborate with and present to partner agencies. Must uphold the The Kearney Center’s ethics and code of conduct at all times
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers: Windows, MS Office, email, and databases Must be able to pass background check to access and utilize the Homeless Management Information System

Work Environment

Frequent driving, sitting, standing, and walking through rugged outdoor environments. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for up to 6 hours per day. Time is split between the field and general office environment with standard accessible office equipment. This position requires the working ability to carry 50lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
