About the role

The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients in critical care settings. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care and facilitate safe transitions to the next care setting.

Overview Critical Care Float RN works under the supervision of the Nurse manager and the Director and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients.

The RN is required to float to a variety of settings in the Critical Care/Telemetry Complex or the Emergency Services Complex at RHS Trauma Center per requirements in PRN Float Agreement.

The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity.

Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care.

Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age related needs of the specific patient populations served in the Critical Care/Telemetry units/departments.

Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans.

What you will do

Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical ands psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served in the Critical Care/Telemetry units/departments and the Emergency Services Complex (see unit specific competencies and equipment checklists).

Partners with patients and families to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Assesses and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the coordination care. Facilitates safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of plan of care.

Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence based practice and quality measures.

Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education method to ensure patient/family comprehension. Educates by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge specific education that includes family/caregiver. Evaluates for patient comprehension and documents.

Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.

Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems to meet need.

Qualifications

  • Education
  • Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Preferred) or
  • Associates Degree, Nursing (Preferred) or
  • Program Graduate, Nursing (Nursing Diploma is minimum education requirement, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma) (Required) and
  • High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate (Required)
  • Experience
  • 2 years Hospital RN Experience in Critical Care (Required)
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to meet scheduling requirements in Full time PRN Float agreement - PRN RN Float Critical Care RRMC F
  • Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or compact state Upon Hire(Required) and
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required) and
  • ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)

Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of a nursing diploma, with a preference for an associate or bachelor's degree. Additionally, two years of hospital RN experience in critical care is required, along with relevant certifications.
