About the role

The Recovery Navigator assists patients with substance use disorders, particularly those who are homeless or incarcerated, in accessing medication-assisted recovery and other evidence-based treatments. They provide case management, facilitate clinic appointments, and advocate for non-judgmental care within hospital and community settings.

Overview

The recovery navigator is a peer recovery specialist who helps patients access evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders with a focus on low-threshold access to MAR (medication assisted recovery), treatment programs, and harm-reduction, specifically those who are homeless, facing homelessness, and incarcerated.

Qualifications

Certifications

Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) within 1 year - Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA), Other Requirements Nonjudgmental, energetic, positive, harm-reduction approach to assisting patients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Understanding of SUD as a medical condition and the role of MAR in treatment and harm reduction. Ability to use computer information systems, computer literacy, and knowledge of word processing. Ability to interact with patients in a culturally relatable manner. Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with identification of patients with a substance use or co-occurring mental health disorders who are incarcerated, homeless, and engaged in other services.
  • Conduct initial brief assessments; introduce and connect patients to recovery programs and services Assist with the facilitation of appointments at outpatient treatment clinics including internal and external agencies with the community.
  • Assist with access to other services such as financial counseling, primary care, mental health services, social services, and residential treatment facilities.
  • Assist with navigating barriers to patients obtaining substance use treatment and other resources Establish professional relationships with patients and communicate with them to help navigate obstacles to follow up treatment, and provide encouragement.
  • Advocate to patients who use drugs within hospital and community settings to reinforce evidence-based, non-judgmental approaches so that patients who use drugs get the same care as patients who do not use drugs.
  • Assist in facilitating initiation of MAR with on-site clinician, when applicable, or with an outpatient provider.
  • Provide case management and engagement services to those with SUD seeking resources.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $17.12per hour - $27.73per hour.

This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health.

The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.

Requirements

Candidates must be able to obtain a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification within one year. They must possess a non-judgmental approach to harm reduction, computer literacy, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations.
