General Purpose of Job

Monitors sterilizers and environment for sterilization, and processes instruments and supplies for use and reuse in a safe and timely manner to meet surgical and other patient care needs within the hospital.

Education and/or Experience

  • Select the one level of education and/or experience needed to successfully accomplish the essential duties of this job. Delete those that do not apply.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Related hospital experience of minimum of 1 year in care of instruments, equipment or supplies, preferred
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
  • Certification by AHCSP preferred

Duties: and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.

Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.

Break down and decontaminate instruments following procedure according to protocols.

Set up trays and prepare for sterilization.

Sterilize instruments and supplies according to Operating Room, Central Processing and manufacturer protocols and standards.

Monitors sterilization process and maintains daily, permanent record of sterilization parameters according to hospital protocols and local, state and AAMI. standards.

Maintains a clean environment by following daily cleaning protocol.

Maintains inventory of supplies and instruments.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required, and one year of related hospital experience in instrument care is preferred. Certification by AHCSP is also preferred for this position.
