The Respiratory Therapist applies scientific knowledge to clinical problems in respiratory care, performing evaluations and interventions for patients with respiratory needs. They also document treatment effectiveness and educate patients and families on respiratory issues.

The newly added 22,000-square-foot facility in Niles, Michigan will have 43 exam rooms and will house both Southwestern Medical Primary Care, Niles and Spectrum Health Lakeland Ear, Nose, and Throat providers.

The $7.8 million project is expected to be completed and open to patients March 2023.

As a team member in delivery of respiratory services, and under medical direction, performs a wide range of procedures related to the care of patients with general and specialized respiratory-related needs of various age groups.

Performs evaluation to determine respiratory care needs, and makes appropriate recommendations and changes in accordance with policy and protocol guidelines.

Assesses effectiveness of treatment and accurately documents according to department and legal/regulatory standards.

Performs point of care testing as required.

Performs advanced evaluation, management and therapeutic procedures (interventions) for patients requiring respiratory assistance.

Assesses effectiveness of intervention and accurately documents according to department and legal/regulatory standards.

Completes and documents required education and competencies within designated timeframe.

Maintains competency in areas of accountability.

Accurate and timely completion of all necessary documentation and billing.

Facilitates a smooth transition for the patient to appropriate referral services / the next point of service / home and provides education to patients and families as it relates to respiratory issues.

Instructs and trains other respiratory care staff, nursing and other medical personnel and students regarding patient needs and respiratory care services.

Qualifications

Requirements

Candidates are required to have an Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy and a valid State of Michigan Respiratory Therapist license. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant experience in pulmonary rehabilitation or respiratory care.
