Job Requirements

Position Summary

The Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for safe, evidence-based administration of oncology therapies and comprehensive patient care across the continuum. The Oncology RN supports antineoplastic medication administration, patient assessment, care coordination, and education for oncology patients in both clinic and infusion settings. The Oncology RN ensures adherence to established oncology protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Administers antineoplastic therapies, including biotherapy and supportive treatments, in accordance with established protocols and safety standards. Performs comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after administration of antineoplastic agents to ensure safe delivery of care. Monitors patients for adverse reactions and toxicities related to antineoplastic therapies; initiate appropriate interventions and escalate care as needed. Maintains strict adherence to medication safety practices, including double verification, handling, and disposal of hazardous antineoplastic drugs per regulatory standards. Coordinates care with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless delivery of antineoplastic treatment plans. Demonstrates the ability to provide patient and caregiver education related to antineoplastic treatment regimens, side effect management, and medication adherence. Documents all care activities, assessments, and antineoplastic medication administration accurately within the oncology EMR. Implements and supports clinical procedures and delegated orders associated with antineoplastic therapy and symptom management. Supports triage functions, including evaluation and prioritization of patient symptoms and concerns related to antineoplastic therapies. Upholds clinical competency in oncology nursing practice, including ongoing education and adherence to organizational and professional standards related to antineoplastic care. Utilizes critical thinking skills to evaluate complex treatment plans, identifies potential scheduling conflicts or safety concerns, and makes informed decisions that align with clinical protocols and patient care priorities. Ability to identify and escalate patient concerns both emotionally and physically.

Work Experience

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma. Work Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.

Certification

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained. Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Fundamentals of Administration Course completion through the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) within six (6) months of hire and maintained.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Strong assessment and critical thinking skills for complex patient populations. Supports team collaboration and contributes to a positive work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) Work Experience: Three (3) years of nursing experience Certification: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently. May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead. May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise. May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines. Communicating with others to exchange information. Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. Workspace may vary from open to confined. May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
