About the role

The Physical Therapist I evaluates patients to develop and implement treatment plans aimed at restoring function and improving mobility. They collaborate with healthcare teams and provide essential education to patients and their families regarding medical conditions.

The Physical Therapist I provides physical therapy and wellness services to patients and clients who have impairments, functional disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes. Moreover, this employee helps patients and clients restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities. The Physical Therapist I collaborates with healthcare teams that include physicians, occupational therapists, and psychologists. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Evaluates new patients, establishes goals, and develops appropriate treatment plans. Documents all evaluations, treatments, and other pertinent patient interactions daily. Educates patients and families regarding medical conditions and provides instructions for home activities. Communicates with physicians and their staff to obtain necessary information and suggests revisions in treatment. Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis or real clinic need. Participates in quality and safety improvement activities. Orients, instructs, and directs work activities for assistants and support personnel. Utilizes appropriate methods and materials for learning programs, monitors effectiveness, and adapts programs accordingly. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.   • Performs evaluation on news patients, establish goals and develop appropriate treatment plans with the patient in accordance to departmental policies and procedures and based on standards of practice established by the APTA.
  • Documents all evaluation, treatments and other pertinent patient interaction, on a daily basis, in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Provides relevant education to patient and/or family regarding the patient’s condition and instruction for home activities.
  • Communicates with physicians and their staff; obtain necessary information and suggest revisions in treatment when deemed appropriate.
  • Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner in accordance to department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity according to standards and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis, real clinic need and treatment within the UHealth System.
  • Participates in quality and safety improvement activities as directed.
  • Orients instruct and direct work activities for assistants and support personnel.
  • Utilizes appropriate methods and materials for effective learning, monitoring response education, and adapting program appropriately.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree and a valid Physical Therapist license in the state of Florida. A Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy is preferred, and no prior experience is required.
