- The TEMP Psych RN provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as assigned, utilizing the nursing process.
- Patient population serviced includes both adolescents and adults.
- Essential Job Responsibilities: Utilizing the nursing process, the RN develops an initial nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient.
- Competent in assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients with co-occurring disorders.
- The nurse continually assesses and reassesses the patient’s medical and psychiatric status and changing needs.
- Participates with other team members in planning and implementing the patient’s treatment plan.
- Directs and participates with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.
- Assists with discharge planning and works with patient’s discharges.
- Provides nursing interventions and education groups in accordance with the program and schedule.
- Medication teaching activities, assessment of medication side effects and medication efficacy, and assists physicians in obtaining informed consent.
- Communicates with patients and parents the appropriate procedure for sending medication to the PHP program, and provides education about those medications.
- Ensures that physician ordered prescriptions are sent home to the parent on the day they are written.
- Maintains professionalism and adheres to the determined standards of care and performance.
- Accurately transcribes physician orders according to nursing policy and procedure.
- Adheres to the Infection Control policies and procedures of the hospital and follows standard precautions at all times.
- Assesses and reassesses patient’s pain and provides nursing care as needed.
- Attend Monthly Clinical Staff meetings or read minutes and sign form of Maintains and stays current with nursing standards of care and nursing practices.
- Demonstrates the ability to handle incoming crisis calls, make referrals and complete assessments as necessary.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain therapeutic relationships, which do not allow self-disclosure of personal/social information to patients and adheres to the Professional Boundary Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. 6-12 months of previous Psych Nursing preferred, demonstrating a strong understanding of the unit they will be assisting in leadership. . Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan. Demonstrates clinical competency in providing general nursing care. Basic understanding of psychiatric nursing theory CPR/Handle With Care certification preferred.
