Position Summary

Responsible for planning and preparing for the surgical procedure and assisting the surgeon. Responsible for sterilization of surgical equipment and to assemble scheduled and emergency case carts. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Demonstrates correct Materials Management (instruments, sponges, needles, etc.) Displays various transfer techniques with sharps, as needed. Counting of surgical objects as required per policy. Accountability and care of surgical specimens. Consistently practices procedures to protect self and others and adheres to OSHA exposure plan guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of the surgery environment. Using the correct Personal Protective Equipment as needed. Having and practicing the skills necessary to function within all surgery specialties. (Ortho, Neuro, General, Vascular, OB/GYN, Plastic, Cysto, Uro and Opth. Scrubs for operative procedures demonstrating good aseptic technique, knowledge of perioperative safety and infection control guidelines, and appropriate handling of instruments, suture, and specimens. Demonstrates competency in assisting the nurse in the care of the patient by assisting with patient prep, patient positioning, and transportation of the patient.

Certified Requirements

  • Certification as a surgical technologist (CST) required. 1-2 years of scrubbing experience in an operating room setting. BLS certification required. Good communication skills. Basic computer skills required.
