About the role

Responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment. Ensures timely delivery of sterile items to the OR and maintains accurate sterilization records.

Job Requirements

Position Summary

To be fully engaged in providing clean, sterile instruments for surgical procedures and providing efficient and timely disbursement of needed supplies. This position is expected to be able to float to all Health First facilities where a Sterile Processing Department is housed.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Performs proper decontamination, assembly, wrapping, sterilizing and distribution functions of instrumentation and equipment within quality standards.

Has knowledge of instruments, properly assembles and wraps items for sterilization.

Maintains accurate records including biological indicators/sterilization records.

Knows washing/decontaminating/sterilizing equipment and possible reason for malfunction.

Uses computer system for generating preference list.

Conducts self in a professional manner treating customers and fellow associates with respect.

Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others.

Accurately pulls supplies from preference lists and/or pick tickets in a neat and timely manner.

Accurately prepares supplies and instruments within a limited time frame.

Delivers sterile items to the OR in a timely manner.

Accurately enters patient charge items in computer application.

Uses time efficiently to complete routine tasks and ensures the economical use of equipment and supplies for department cost savings.

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be able to read and write in the English language for effective communication and record keeping. Reliable means of transportation to all Health First facilities required.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: In process of attaining higher degree level Certification: CBSPD/IAHCSMM certification Work Experience: At least one year of healthcare field experience

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crouching frequently. Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance. May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above. shoulders or over head
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to loud noise. May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines. Communicating with others to exchange information. Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. Workspace may vary from open to confined. May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
