About the role

The nurse will assess, diagnose, and implement individualized care plans for patients while managing acute and chronic conditions. They are responsible for performing bedside lab testing, documenting patient progress, and ensuring safety standards are met.

Overview

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients through the application of the nursing process. Nurses will assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate care, often catching any complications early. Rapid assessment and interpretation of complex patient data. Makes evidence-based decisions under pressure while managing acute and chronic conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient's status through interview, observation and physical assessment of actual problems and outcomes.
  • Develops an individualized plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
  • Uses appropriate interventions identified in the plan of care to achieve expected patient outcomes.
  • Systematically evaluates and documents patient's progress toward expected outcomes/goals on an ongoing basis throughout the shift.
  • Modifies plan of care based on evaluation and as needed based on changes in patient condition.
  • Completes required documentation as appropriate, including patient chart and event reports.
  • Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.
  • Performs patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider’s orders and hospital lab procedures/policies Adapts teaching strategies based on patient's response, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Takes cultural, age-specific, gender, and developmental factors into consideration when teaching patients about procedures, illness, hospital experience, etc.
  • Ensures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Utilizes SVI patient education system as a resource for patients and family members.
  • Assures that the care provided is consistent with standards of care, evidence based practices, national patient safety goals, core measures and other quality initiatives undertaken by the unit/hospital Participates in the implementation of Performance Improvement initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The compensation range for this position is $36.8per hour - $59.89per hour.
  • This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health.
  • The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a valid Illinois Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license and possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the AHA. A college diploma in nursing is required for this position.
