  • Compensation: $20–$24/hour + $3/hour Overnight Shift Differential

Join East End Veterinary Center (EEVC) as a full-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Riverhead, NY. Work alongside experienced veterinarians and Licensed Veterinary Technicians while supporting emergency and critical care patients in a fast-paced specialty animal hospital environment.

This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant who enjoys hands-on patient care, learning new skills, and being part of a collaborative team committed to exceptional emergency veterinary medicine.

  • Anticipated schedule of four 10-hour shifts per week

Responsibilities

  • Clean, prepare, and sterilize surgical equipment and instrument packs (gas sterilization certification provided)
  • Run CT scans from start to finish following department protocols
  • Obtain orthopedic and standard radiographs
  • Safely restrain patients for examinations and anesthetic procedures
  • Set up and break down the surgery department for daily procedures
  • Assist with surgical case preparation and patient care
  • Accurately obtain and record patient vital signs
  • Assist with appointments and patient history collection
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and client service teams
  • Maintain flexibility to support a rotating schedule and evolving patient needs

Qualifications

  • Previous veterinary assistant experience preferred
  • Surgical, anesthesia, radiology, or specialty hospital experience is a plus
  • Strong patient handling and restraint skills
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Friendly, compassionate, reliable, and professional demeanor
  • Commitment to exceptional patient care and client service
  • Positive attitude and desire to contribute to a collaborative hospital culture
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant is preferred, but motivated entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be fluent in English and capable of safely handling and restraining dogs and cats of various sizes.
