Licensed vocational nurse / Registered nurse – lvn/Rn

About the Role

West Texas Medical Care is seeking a dedicated and dependable Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse to join our clinical team. The LVN/RN plays an important role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced outpatient clinic setting. This position is responsible for assisting providers with patient care, educating patients on chronic conditions, performing clinical procedures, and supporting daily clinic workflow.

The LVN/RN will work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate care. This role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to educate patients in a way that promotes better health outcomes.

The LVN/RN will also be cross-trained to assist with additional in-office services such as EKGs, retina scans, chronic care support, and patient education related to common chronic conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current and valid LVN or RN license in the state of Texas
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Knowledge of basic nursing principles, patient care standards, and medical terminology
  • Ability to accurately document patient care and communicate changes in patient condition
  • Ability to pass required background checks and health screening requirements
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a busy clinic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Previous experience in an outpatient clinic, family practice, internal medicine, hospital, or long-term care setting
  • Experience with electronic health records, preferably eClinicalWorks
  • Experience educating patients on chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and obesity
  • Experience performing or assisting with EKGs, retina scans, injections, wound care, or other clinic procedures
  • Strong communication and patient education skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the direction of a physician, nurse practitioner, or supervising provider
  • Obtain and monitor vital signs, review patient concerns, and assist with rooming patients
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments as ordered by the provider and within scope of practice
  • Assist with in-office procedures and diagnostic testing, including EKGs and retina scans
  • Provide patient education regarding chronic conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, obesity, medication compliance, diet, lifestyle changes, and follow-up care
  • Identify and report changes in patient condition to the provider in a timely manner
  • Document patient care accurately and completely in the electronic health record
  • Assist with care coordination, referrals, medication refills, lab follow-ups, and patient communication as needed
  • Support chronic care management, preventative care, and quality measures within the clinic
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment
  • Follow clinic policies, nursing standards, HIPAA guidelines, and infection control procedures
  • Work as part of a team to support efficient patient flow and excellent patient experience
