Position purpose

The Mohs Tech performs all routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by the Mohs surgeons.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Performs Mohs histology including

  • specimen grossing, chuck preparation, microtomy, staining, coverslipping
  • Maintains quality and viability of all specimens, including verification of chucks and slides to case numbers to ensures correct patient labeling
  • Correctly prepares solutions for staining
  • Adheres to quality control policies
  • Performs routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment issues
  • Follows appropriate laboratory safety protocols
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • And education requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree or higher in a chemical, physical or biological science OR a minimum 24 hours (with 6-chemistry, 6-biology and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination) OR HT/HTL (ASCP) certified, or eligible OR Certification of Mohs Training by a Nationally recognized facilitator.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a team and service oriented environment. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with physicians, providers and lab personnel.
  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment
  • Computer literate
  • Strong analytical judgement
  • Accuracy and close attention to details
  • Familiarity with automated laboratory equipment and terminology
  • Preferred skills
  • Experience with Mohs technique
  • Must be ok with traveling to Arlington Heights, Oak Park, Libertyville, Skokie, and Naperville
  • Work schedule: Monday
  • Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm (Mohs Days) and 7:30am - 4:00pm (when helping in lab)

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and either an associate's degree in science, specific science credit hours, or HT/HTL (ASCP) certification. Candidates must possess strong manual dexterity and the ability to travel to various clinic locations.
