The Clinical Pharmacist – Inpatient & Infusion Center provides clinical and operational pharmacy support across Akron General's inpatient pharmacy and infusion services. Based within the inpatient pharmacy, this role rotates between inpatient operations and sterile compounding support for the health system's infusion centers, with approximately half of scheduled shifts dedicated to infusion pharmacy services. Responsibilities include medication order verification, patient chart review, sterile and non-sterile compounding oversight, triaging medication-related needs, and collaborating with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to ensure safe and efficient workflow. Caregivers also support sterile compounding for the Akron Main infusion center and cross-train to regional infusion locations to provide coverage during planned and unplanned staffing needs, offering a diverse practice environment that combines inpatient pharmacy operations with specialized infusion services.

A caregiver in this position will work primarily first shift, with three weeks on first shift followed by one week on second shift as part of the rotation. First-shift hours may include 6:00am–2:30pm, 7:00am–3:30pm, or 8:00am–4:30pm, while second-shift hours may include 11:00am–7:30pm, 2:00pm–10:30pm, or 3:00pm–11:30pm, based on operational needs. Caregivers participate in an every-fourth-weekend rotation and may occasionally provide limited third-shift coverage to support scheduled time off for the overnight pharmacy team.

A caregiver who excels in this role will

Provides safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.

Verifies medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.

Documents services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.

Actively contributes to medication safety initiatives.

Utilizes available technology proficiently and to full extent, in their area of practice.

Ensures all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.

Maintains professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.

Directs staff appropriately to provide safe and efficient care.

Maintains professional working relationships with all caregivers.

Promotes a positive work environment by providing constructive ideas and feedback to improve services and the department.

Educates and trains students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.

Provides cost-effective care.

Accountable for drug use policy adherence.

Utilizes time and resources effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

for the ideal future caregiver include:

PharmD or Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy

Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire

For individuals required to administer immunizations, Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required

Preferred Qualifications

for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Board Certification
  • Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience
  • Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area

Physical Requirements

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision.
  • Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person
