What You Will Do

We are seeking a Scientist to support the Vaccine Immunology Program (VIP) to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Gaithersburg, MD.

Perform common laboratory duties such as reagent ordering, instrument care, and inventory maintenance.

Locate and review literature pertinent to projects and identify/modify the most applicable protocols and methods for experiments.

Contribute to the development of new single-cell next-generation sequencing analyses and workflows.

Establish and optimize flow cytometry panels for sorting immune cell populations of interest.

Isolate and stain lymphocytes from blood or tissue for flow cytometry.

Manage scientific equipment and resources, including acquisition, documentation, and storage, for items such as reagents, stocks of frozen cells, animal samples, etc.

Participate in project and laboratory meetings.

Troubleshoot assays and adjust scientific methodology to correct problems or deficiencies in a research project, experiment, or trial.

Develop and maintain collegial, collaborative relationships with colleagues in the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) research groups.

What You Will Need

Master’s degree in biology with TWO (2) years of experience OR bachelor’s degree in biology with FOUR (4) years of experience in lieu of master’s degree.

Minimum TWO (2) years of experience must be directly related to flow cytometry.

Knowledgeable in the discipline of viral and vaccine immunology.

Understanding of the laws, regulations, policies, guidelines, and ethical standards governing research.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $74,000.00-$124,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
