Position Summary

This position is for a Resident Physical Therapist in the University of Central Florida – Orlando Health Pelvic & Women’s Health Residency Program. This is a 12-month position, split between outpatient rehabilitation and acute care at Winnie Palmer Hospital. This unique opportunity provides extensive mentorship and didactic education opportunities to develop a specialized provider, with ability to sit for board examination upon completion of the program. The Resident Physical Therapist will participate in a twelve (12) month program to work with patients in a given specialty area who have impairments, limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. Responsibilities

  • Committed to the completion of the educational goals and objectives of the residency program and to the mission and values of Orlando Health.
  • Performs duties outside of clinical time which may include, but are not limited to, sports field coverage, mobility screenings, community support groups, physician rounding, teaching assistance or guest lectures with local physical therapy programs, multidisciplinary clinic days, volunteer community engagement events, and supporting local community partner events.
  • Reports to scheduled mentoring time prepared with patient cases to review or live patient mentor sessions scheduled. Resident physical therapist is responsible for initiating need for increased time or support needed.
  • Communicates with residency program faculty, mentor, and clinical site supervisor as appropriate.
  • Collaborates within and across Orlando Health departments and its partners.
  • Complete one or more outcome-oriented projects.
  • Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, the physician, interdisciplinary team meetings if available, family, significant other persons, and data sources.
  • Develops treatment plans which integrate with the continuum of care and have specific goals and objectives and treats accordingly.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use, care, and maintenance of profession specific equipment, observing safety precautions and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to treat and provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned caseload.
  • Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plan and goals when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
  • Provides care as described in the unit’s/area’s/department’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her practicing location(s). Recognizes and communicates when the patient has received optimal benefit from physical therapy.
  • Adheres to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice.
  • Ensures complete, and timely, documentation and accurate billing.
  • Provides patient/family education as indicated.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training Bachelor’s degree or higher from an approved program in physical therapy.

  • Licensure/Certification
  • Maintains current Physical Therapist license in the State of Florida. Temporary permit acceptable.
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in physical therapy and a current Florida Physical Therapist license or temporary permit. BLS/HealthCare Provider certification is also required.
