About the role

The Nurse Anesthetist collaborates with a physician to develop anesthesia care plans and administers various types of anesthesia during procedures. They also monitor patients and manage their physiological condition while under anesthesia.

Summary

This position in collaboration with a physician develops an anesthesia care plan.

Provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care and/or administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

Monitors patients accurately and performs Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilation or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center.

Manages the patients’ physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician.

Assists with other departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

  • Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation. (25%)
  • Prepares the OR Suite for all types of anesthesia. (25%)
  • Administers, manages, and monitors anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence. (25%)
  • Provide post-anesthesia care and evaluation.

  • Takes appropriate safety precautions to insure the safe administration of his/her anesthesia care. Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the Department. Provide clinical support to other departments within the Medical Center. Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook. An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an additional preferred certification.

  • CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
