Job summary

The Chemotherapy Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to oncology and hematology patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration, supportive therapies, and other infusion treatments in an outpatient setting. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, treatment administration, symptom management, patient education, and coordination of care while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, evidence-based practice, and safety standards. The nurse works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, nurse navigators, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current RN license by MS Board of Nursing; ability to read/write/communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BLS or ACLS certification.
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate
  • Experience
  • Minimum one year of nursing experience required.
  • Oncology, infusion therapy, or chemotherapy administration experience preferred.
  • Experience with central line management and infusion therapies preferred.
  • Essential duties & responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments before, during, and after infusion treatments.
  • Review laboratory results, provider orders, treatment plans, and patient eligibility for treatment.
  • Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration, and supportive medications according to established protocols.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and complications and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Assess and manage treatment-related side effects and symptoms.
  • Coordinate emergency response and provide immediate care for infusion reactions and medical emergencies.
  • Access, maintain, and monitor central venous access devices, including implanted ports, PICC lines, and central venous catheters.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, hazardous drug handling, and medication safety practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department performance goals.
  • Collaborate with providers, pharmacists, social workers, nurse navigators, and other team members to coordinate patient care
  • Physical requirements
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs independently; >50 lbs with assistance/devices.
  • Assist with patient repositioning and transfers using proper body mechanics and equipment.
  • Manual dexterity for clinical procedures and computer use; adequate vision, hearing, and speech.
