  • Responsibilities: Performs MRI procedures as directed by physicians. Elicits pertinent information concerning the procedure and the patient's history from the medical chart and the patient. Explains the procedure to the patient. Positions the patient appropriately. Selects the appropriate scan protocol and parameters. Cannulates veins for administration of contrast material or other medication. Assists the radiologist during special procedures. Monitors the patient's condition during procedures. Sends images electronically to be read by the Radiologist. Schedules patients for MRI procedures and gives them instructions. Screens patients for any contraindication to MRI. Stays current on MRI safety. Performs Quality Control Testing. Performs ACR testing and maintains proper documentation per ACR guidelines. Maintains scan and imaging equipment in good condition. Keeps work area clean, organized, and stocked with supplies necessary for MRI procedures. Performs related work as required.

Keeps abreast of current techniques, procedures and policies. Maintains professional, considerate and congenial work relationships wtih patients, staff and the public. Keeps equipment and work area clean, organized, well stocked and functioning properly. Observes all clinic guidelines and policies.

  • Experience: Two years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education

Equivalent to a college degree.

Certification

completion of course in Radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; current certification (ARRT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and/or registered in MR with current certification with the ARRT.

Skills: A Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion.

KNOWLEDGE OF: cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to focus the exam on the area of concern; common safety hazards and precautions; MRI physics and instrumentation to provide the best possible image quality; the effects of strong magnetic fields and radio frequencies on humans, equipment, and objects that could enter the field and appropriate safety measures in these environments.

SKILL IN: vein cannulization; recognizing and responding to patient's needs; monitoring the patient's condition; sterile techniques and procedures; maintaining records and recording information; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.

ABILITY TO: react calmly to emergency situations; communicate clearly; interpret, adapt, and apply established guidelines, yet be flexible to meet the individual needs of the patient; work with general supervision, structuring own work patterns within the general outline, referring unusual situations or problems to the supervisor; maintain quality control standards; and work effectively during periods of stress resulting from patient flow and office demands.

Physical

Requirements: Persons with cardiac pacemakers, internal cardiac defibrillators, brain aneurysm clips, or cochlear implants are precluded from working in the MRI environment. Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all departmental equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 30 pounds; lifts and appropriately positions patients weighing up to 300 pounds. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review developed films. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Exposure to strong magnetic fields and radio frequencies. This Job Description is not a complete statement of all duties and responsibilities comprising the position.

Requirements

Requires a college degree and ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology and/or MR. Candidates must have 2 to 5 years of related experience and the physical ability to position patients.
