Job Description: Title: Medical Services Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)

Salary –Exempt Work Schedule: Candidate may choose either a 4-day or 5-day workweek, with flexibility to adjust schedule to meet client needs, generally conforming to the agency hours of 8:00am-6:00pm. 0.8-1.0 FTE. Primary Responsibilities: The Medical Services Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) plays a vital role in delivering integrated, person-centered care at Kanza Mental Health and Guidance Center. As part of our commitment as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), this position emphasizes the importance of collaborative, holistic treatment, bridging the gap between physical and behavioral health. The APRN provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive services to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges, including Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals with opioid or alcohol use disorders. This role is central to the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, focusing on high-needs clients through flexible, community-based, and team-driven approaches. The APRN works in close collaboration with clinical staff, clients, families, and external providers to ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. Services are delivered across multiple platforms, including office visits, telehealth, and community outreach, allowing for responsive and accessible care tailored to the needs of the individual. Services are provided across all ages, from children to older adults. Essential Job Functions: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including assessment of mental health and/or substance use disorders. Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, grounded in evidence-based practices and client-centered goals. Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, including monitoring for effectiveness, side effects, and adherence. Provide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for clients with substance use disorders, including assessment, medication prescribing (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone), monitoring, and coordination with counseling and support services. Collaborate closely with the ACT team, particularly the ACT RN, to coordinate care and provide medical insight during regular team meetings. Delivering services in multiple settings, including community outreach, in-office, and via telehealth, based on client needs and clinical appropriateness. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure continuity and integration of care across providers and services. Engage in care coordination with primary care providers, specialists, and other external supports to promote whole-person care. Provide education and support to clients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications (including MAT), and overall wellness strategies. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency, state, and federal guidelines. Uphold the standards and values of a CCBHC, including accessibility, cultural competence, recovery orientation, and trauma-informed care. Uphold all clinical and ethical standards related to confidentiality, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2. Other relevant duties may be reasonably assigned. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: · Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (PMHNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from an accredited advanced practice program. · Hold a valid and unrestricted Kansas APRN license, issued by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. · Must have a valid and unrestricted DEA license in the state of Kansas, including appropriate schedules for psychiatric prescribing and MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment). · No current or past suspension, exclusion, or debarment from participation in federal health care programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, or Tricare. · A minimum of two years of clinical experience prescribing psychiatric medications for both youth and adults. · Proficient in telemedicine platforms, electronic health record (EHR) systems, and e-prescribing (e-scripts); strong attention to detail and comfort with technology are essential. · Must maintain active credentials and licensure with all relevant Kansas licensing boards and major insurance providers, with support from Kanza’s credentialing team. Physical Demands: · The employee is routinely required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday. · Must occasionally reach with hands and arms, as well as stoop, kneel, or crouch when interacting with clients or accessing files and equipment. · Frequent prolonged use of a computer and screen-based equipment is required, including periods of data entry, video conferencing, and electronic documentation. · Must occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, such as files, equipment, or supplies. · Position requires manual dexterity, visual acuity, and sufficient auditory ability to perform job-related tasks effectively in various clinical and administrative environments. Work Environment: · Kanza Mental Health and Guidance Center is a community-based behavioral health provider operating as both a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) and a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). · The APRN’s schedule will typically consist of a 50/50 time split between serving clients on the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team and those within the broader CMHC/CCBHC outpatient system. · The APRN’s primary office location may be in Holton and/or Hiawatha, depending on service area needs and travel distance. Flexibility in scheduling and location is required to meet the evolving needs of clients and teams. · This position involves frequent travel within the community, including home visits and outreach services, commonly using a company-provided vehicle. · Work may occasionally involve exposure to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric distress, emotional dysregulation, or crisis. The APRN must be able to respond calmly, safely, and effectively in situations requiring de-escalation or emergency intervention. · The work environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and mission-driven, requiring adaptability and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health or Family Nurse Practitioner programs and a valid Kansas APRN and DEA license. A minimum of two years of clinical experience prescribing psychiatric medications for youth and adults is required.
