About the role

The Ultrasound Tech performs general ultrasound procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and produces images for radiologist interpretation. Responsibilities include preparing equipment, positioning patients, and maintaining accurate records and quality control standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ultrasound Tech - PRN Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917.
  • Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the American Heart Association for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and Stroke, and most recently, coronary artery disease.
  • Additionally, Aiken Regional provides comprehensive healthcare services such as behavioral health (Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health), emergency medical care (main hospital and ER at Sweetwater), orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation services(Hitchcock Rehabilitation Services), imaging, and wound care.

  • Performs General ultrasound procedures and uses related techniques, producing images for interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Maintains appropriate records as required by regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Performs required equipment quality control procedures and reports deficiencies to supervisor.

Duties

Prepares room, equipment, contrast media and materials as needed for procedures. Maintains clean and stocked procedure room on a daily basis. Properly checks equipment daily, and ensures equipment is working properly. If equipment is not functioning properly, notifies appropriate person. Prepares patient for procedure – explains procedure, transfers patient to examination table, positions patient correctly, and assists patient at end of procedure. Sends images to PACS appropriately and verifies all are available for interpretation in a timely manner. Performs general clerical, file room, and transportation duties when needed to fulfill the workload of the department. Practices patient care according to ARMC policy. Considers age-related factors in obtaining images or performing diagnostic or therapeutic imaging studies. Applies knowledge of age related factors appropriately to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. Regularly accepts additional work during period of low patient activity, and demonstrates a willingness to assist others within the department as requested. Assists Radiologists during procedures and takes films as requested. Knowledgeable in proper sequence of scheduling exams for entire department. Responsible for knowing and maintaining the measurements described in the Universal Protocol policy. Charges procedures in RadNet accurately and immediately after procedure is performed. Demonstrates knowledge and competency in ultrasound procedures Obtain and correctly document verbal and telephone orders per facility policy (only applies to ARRT licensed staff). Rotates to other imaging departments as needed; participates in holiday and on-call rotation requirements. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Requirements

Education: Minimum of Associate degree in Radiography or Sonography from CAAHEP approved school of Ultrasound.

Experience
