About the role

Deliver comprehensive perioperative care to surgical patients through assessment, planning, and implementation of nursing interventions. Maintain sterile techniques and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety during procedures.

Overview The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.

Perioperative Registered Nurses/Circulators are clinically competent, registered, professional nurses who have demonstrated expertise in the perioperative field.

They effectively deliver perioperative care to the surgical patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.

Supervised by the Surgical Services Unit Charge Nurses and the Director of Surgical Services Functions and Responsibilities: Adherence to hospital/department policy >Maintains good attendance record. >Arrives to work punctually >Follows dress code >Observes confidentiality >Adheres to safety policies >Participates in continuing education >Follows department of nursing and hospital policy and procedures >Complies with surgery department policy and procedures >Complies with call and staffing assignments Patient Care >Uses the nursing process to plan and provide comprehensive safe patient care >Assesses the patient >Plans patient care >Documents patient care. >Collaborates with other members of the health care team in planning care >Educates and Instructs patient and family >Conscientiously and continuously applies nursing principles in patient care >Participates in performance improvement activities.

Clinical Duties >Administers medications, blood and blood products according to policy and procedure in collaboration with anesthesia >Administers treatments, ensuring proper positioning, prepping, and safety of patient before, during, and after procedure. >Ensures sterile technique is mantained at all times, communicating with team and surgeons for patient safety. >Performs patient care, scrub or circulating duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a current license as a registered nurse in the state of Alabama Must have current BCLS certification Recommended ACLS and PALS certification

Requirements

Must be a graduate of an accredited professional nursing program with a current Alabama registered nurse license. Current BCLS certification is required, with ACLS and PALS certifications recommended.
