Whitmire Animal Hospital is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team! If you enjoy surgery, patient care, and working alongside a supportive, collaborative team, we'd love to meet you.

Our recently expanded, privately owned small animal hospital is home to five full-time veterinarians who are passionate about delivering high-quality medicine and exceptional client service. We are proud to be a multi-year Best of Dawson winner for both Best Veterinary Services and Best Pet Care, and we're committed to creating an environment where our team members can continue to learn and grow.

What you'll do

As an experienced Veterinary Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians while helping provide excellent care from admission through recovery.

Responsibilities

include:

  • Assisting with surgical preparation and patient recovery
  • Preparing surgical suites and maintaining sterile technique
  • Monitoring patients before and after procedures
  • Assisting with anesthesia monitoring under veterinarian or technician supervision
  • Collecting patient histories and obtaining vital signs
  • Safely restraining patients for examinations and treatments
  • Collecting laboratory samples and performing in-house diagnostics
  • Taking radiographs
  • Filling medications and preparing treatment plans
  • Cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical equipment
  • Educating clients on post-operative care, medications, and preventative health
  • Assisting with inventory management and stocking supplies
  • Supporting the team during appointments, walk-ins, and urgent care cases

What we're looking for

We're seeking someone who is dependable, compassionate, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

Qualified candidates will have

  • Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a small animal practice
  • Surgical assisting experience required
  • Experience preparing patients for surgery and assisting with anesthesia preferred
  • Strong patient restraint and animal handling skills
  • Experience with laboratory sample collection and diagnostics
  • Excellent communication and client service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining a calm, positive attitude
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support teammates wherever needed
