About the role

Perform diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures and assist radiologists with invasive procedures across all patient age groups. Manage image quality, documentation in PACS, and ensure patient safety and comfort during exams.

Overview Job Summary

Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and a radiologist, performs imaging procedures producing two-dimensional high frequency sound waves to create diagnostic images of the human body for use in diagnosis of medical conditions, at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Responsibilities include knowledge of all Ultrasound procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, Utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assists physicians as required. Will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required, or set forth. Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions 1. Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces high quality images on all patient age groups. 1. Provides patient education about procedure to be performed. 2. Utilizes appropriate positioning of patient for procedure. 3. Selects appropriate Transducer for specific body part. 4. Review images for quality and accuracy of images obtained. 2. Assists Radiologist with Invasive Procedures. 1. Sets up room properly for specific procedure. 2. Practices principles of sterile technique 3. Label items on trays in accordance with required Joint commission standards. 4. Selects appropriate procedure trays/instruments needed. 5. Obtain images as requested by Radiologist to facilitate diagnosis of disease processes. 3. Maintain Patient and Personal safety. 1. Use two (2) identifiers approved by the hospital to verify patient identity. 2. Utilizes all required infection control practices. 3. Follows principles of good body mechanics when lifting. 4. Utilize appropriate transfer techniques for patient condition. 4. Recognition and Documentation of abnormalities. 1. Recognizes and documents abnormalities, pathology, and/or fetal abnormalities 2. Obtains correct and appropriate measurements for both normal and abnormal structures (i.e. fetal measurements, ovarian/uterine measurements, st/massmeasurements. 3. Keeps acoustic power values within acceptable limits when performing exams. 4. Completes sonographic procedures in a timely manner to avoid unnecessary exposure to patient/fetus. 5. Utilizes field of view, gain, and other adjustments to maximize quality of images 5. PACS 1. Completes all exams timely in PACS 2. Properly performs procedure for making patient CD’s. 3. Verify that written physician order matches order in PACS 4. Verifies all images are in PACS ,& Scans any required documents, and Adds additional study information in notes section as needed. 6. Operates film digitizer to add films to PACS.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography program preferred. CPR Certification required. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped. Understand technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels. Use eyes, hands and fingers with skill. Work fast in an emergency situation. Effectively communicate with people when they are sick, handicapped, or nervous. Follow instructions exactly. Record information accurately. Ability to care for patients of all ages.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and CPR certification, with a preference for graduates of an accredited Ultrasonography program. Must possess the technical skill to operate transducers and the ability to communicate effectively with patients in medical distress.
