About the role

The Speech Therapist is responsible for screening, diagnosing, and treating disorders of speech, language, and oral-pharyngeal function. They provide rehabilitative services and collaborate with medical professionals to develop discharge plans and treatment goals.

Description JOB SUMMARY

  • Provides screening, identifying, assessing and interpreting, diagnosing, rehabilitating, and preventing disorders of speech (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice), language, disorders of oral-pharyngeal function (e.g. dysphagia) and related disorders; screening and referral of auditory disorders.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.) § Performs diagnostic evaluations and screenings of receptive and expressive language skills, fluency, voice parameters, oral-motor aspects of speech and swallowing, articulation, auditory skills, communicative-cognitive skill, augmentative-alternative communication and dysphagia. § Provides habilitative and rehabilitative services for individuals with communication and swallowing impairments. § Maintains current documentation of patient records, attendance and treatment charges, and evaluation reports. § Provides specific and clear instructions/education to patients, families, and hospital staff regarding disorders, specific treatment strategies, and ongoing treatment programming. § Assists in promoting and maintaining a high level of quality patient care. § Assists in the performance of other administrative functions as required, including maintenance of department supplies and equipment, and recommendations for the budgeting process. § Communicates and plans with other rehabilitation and medical professionals regarding speech/swallowing treatment strategies, discharge plans, outcome prognosis, and other short/long term goals. § Uses appropriate developmental register in verbal and written evaluation, treatment, and education. § Recognizes appropriate modality/media contraindication according to physical and developmental factors. § Develops referral/discharge plan consistent with patient and family needs, utilizing appropriate age/development related community resources. § Maintains current clinical knowledge related to age groups and diagnoses treated. § Performs other duties as assigned.

The candidate must be able to perform comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and maintain accurate patient records. They should possess the ability to educate patients and families on treatment strategies and maintain current clinical knowledge.
