• The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) assists in the provision of patient care based on the nursing process and in compliance with all hospital and departmental policies, protocols, and procedures. The CST is accountable for maintaining and continually improving their technical knowledge and skills. The CST demonstrates proficiency in the organizational and technical skills required in the surgical setting, including assisting the surgeon during operative procedures. The CST consistently demonstrates patient-centered, patient-valued behaviors and provides care that meets the age-specific and special needs of patients, including those with disabilities. In addition to operating room responsibilities, the CST will be trained and deemed competent to work in Sterile Processing Department (SPD) functions. The CST is expected to assist and provide support in all areas of SPD as needed, including but not limited to decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and case cart preparation, in accordance with hospital policy, regulatory standards, and best practices. The CST demonstrates knowledge and compliance with all hospital and departmental policies, protocols, and procedures. Performs all other duties as assigned, as appropriate within the scope of practice.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Surgical Technician school with at least one year of hospital experience. Required certifications include BLS from the American Red Cross and credentialing from the NBSTSA.
