About the role

The Parasitology Lab Aide is responsible for collecting, processing, and preparing fecal samples while maintaining lab equipment and organization. They must follow Standard Operating Procedures to ensure quality control and efficiency within the laboratory.

Work Shift: 9am-5:30pm Monday - Friday with alternating Saturdays.

The Target Pay for this position is $18.46 an hour.

Job Purpose/Overview The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing and preparing of fecal samples.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Collect fecal specimens from login, scan into loads, and prepare for set up. Meet all minimum department requirements for para loads and Fcombo set-up rates. Accurately building loads and label processing tubes Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required Find missing specimens. Print and reconcile queue list Maintain organization of storage refrigerator Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc. Awareness of quality control and calibration Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab. Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation. Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment Ability to work independently and as part of a team Communication skills, both verbal and written Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions Positive, can-do attitude Working Conditions Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours. Constantly operates lab equipment accurately and efficiently Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. The ability to observe details at close range Extended hours may be needed Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments Work under close to moderate supervision Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
