About the role

Facilitates communication between patients and providers by preparing patients for visits, documenting vitals, and managing EMR data. Responsible for maintaining exam room standards and handling administrative tasks such as prescriptions and medical forms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • In lieu of experience must have the following training and/or experience:
  • Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate;
  • OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
  • High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.

Preferred

Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Experience with orthopedics

  • Essential Functions
  • Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care:
  • Collect and shares pertinent information with the provider
  • Receives and acts on directives from the provider
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for visit with the provider.

Duties

  • include but are not limited to, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, accurate data entry into EMR.
  • Responsible for completing tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
  • Maintains exam room standards. Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day.
  • Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace them as needed.
  • Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (i.e. work release, FMLA, etc.).
  • Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
  • Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
  • Verify any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirm the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), note imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service.
  • Scans clinical documents into EMR.
  • Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
  • Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
  • Create and promote a positive patient experience
  • Maintain HIPAA compliant environment
  • Maintain clean workspace

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program with a CMA certificate or state-regulated equivalent. Preference is given to candidates with 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management.
