About the role

The Surgical Technologist supports perioperative services by preparing patients, equipment, and sterile environments for surgical procedures. They provide technical assistance to surgeons by anticipating needs and managing surgical supplies and medications.

The Surgical Technologist I performs various tasks supporting perioperative services. This position assists multiple disciplines within the operating room by preparing patients and equipment for procedures, and maintaining environmental standards. This position, also, provides technical assistance to surgeons by anticipating procedures and equipment. The Surgical Technologist measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents, and other solutions.

What you can expect

CST for Labor and Delivery Dept - experience preferred

Arrange instrument trays, prepare sterile drapes and solutions, and help the surgical team put on caps, gowns, and gloves.

Assist with prep of patients, as needed.

Pass instruments to surgeons and surgical assistants.

May assist with sponge, needle, and other supply counts to track materials used in surgery.

May operate suction, diagnostic, and sterilizing equipment, and package specimens to take for laboratory analysis.

Clinic responsibilities may include rooming patients, taking vitals, orders, and routing phone calls.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Surgery Preferred
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Indiana
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Illinois

Travel is required: Never or Rarely

Requirements

Candidates must have a High School Diploma/GED and be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST). BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required, and one year of surgery experience is preferred.
