The Medical Assistant will support physicians and clinicians by managing patient flow, recording vital signs, and assisting with clinical procedures in an oncology setting. They are also responsible for maintaining exam rooms, performing administrative tasks, and coordinating specialized tests and treatments.

SCRI Oncology Partners, located in Nashville, Tenn., is a dedicated cancer treatment center led by globally recognized oncologists with disease expertise in cancer care and clinical research.

The practice conducts clinical trials through their affiliation with Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), a global leader in oncology research that has been offering and managing clinical trials in the community for over 30 years.

Since its inception, SCRI has contributed to pivotal research that has helped advance the majority of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA today.

You will support smooth patient flow through exams and procedures, assist with day-to-day clinic operations, and help create a seamless experience for patients at every touchpoint.

All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the US Oncology Compliance Program and its Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Responds to patients’ calls as requested.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
  • Alerts nurse/physician of abnormal vitals, any important information given by patient.
  • Collects inbound meaningful use data such as flu documentation, initial height and weight.
  • Prints med list for patient to review.
  • Fill out disability forms.
  • Schedule blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, ordering special tests (Oncotypes, Kras testing, EGFR (epidural growth factor receptor), Myraid, Paradigm, etc).
  • May enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification or plans to get one within 30 days of hire.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Required to lift and assist patients as requested.

  • Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment may occur.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 to 3 years of experience as a medical or nursing assistant. A current BCLS certification is required, and a Certified Medical Assistant credential is preferred.
