Performs nuclear medicine procedures including radiopharmaceutical administration and patient positioning while ensuring radiation protection. Maintains compliance with safety protocols, manages supplies, and documents patient examination history.

Description JOB SUMMARY Performs all nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning, technique selection, administration of radiopharmaceuticals, and application of immobilization and radiation protection devices according to policy and procedure.

Maintains hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience.

Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.

Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.

Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.

Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.

Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.

Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and DNV standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Receives consultation request, checking for special instructions from the requesting physician, consults with the radiologist as necessary.

Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and correctness of the procedure.

Introduces self and completely explains examination procedure to the patient and family, if present.

Updates patient examination history file, records unusual conditions/limitations, documents examination time, room number, and technique factors.

Completes examination, consultation, and billing procedures as required.

Performs other paperwork as applicable.

Performs visual preventive safety inspections.

Reports dangerous building or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel.

Takes necessary steps to correct disruption caused by failure in assigned area and if unable to do so, reports at once to supervisor.

Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room or work station, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items.

Reports shortage of materials to the supervisor as soon as possible.

Demonstrates competency in utilization of communication equipment and radiology management system as applicable.

Ensures compliance with all applicable rules, regulations and orders of the state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, including the requirements of the administrative code and any conditions specified in the Radioactive Materials License Ensures compliance with all Radiation Safety (ALARA) and Quality Control programs and procedures applicable to Nuclear Medicine Procedures.

Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations, attends in-service education programs and staff meetings, and participates in film critique sessions.

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS Associates degree in Applied Science (AAS) nuclear medicine technology required. Two years related recent work experience in the field of nuclear medicine, hospital setting preferred. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) N, and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Current Nuclear Medicine Technologist license to practice in the State of Ohio.

  • FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS Working Conditions and Physical Environment Works in a patient care setting where there is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials; and electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
  • Fast-paced setting with rapid patient turnover.
  • High patient traffic.
  • Close-quartered and shared work space.
  • Sufficient mobility to negotiate physical plant.
  • Strength and endurance sufficient enough to perform physically for long periods of time without sitting (four to eight hours).
  • May include: walking; lifting 25 – 50lbs with or without assistance; bending; twisting; standing; sitting; reaching; stair-climbing and descending.
  • Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergency patient care needs in an ambulatory setting.
  • Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient to read information and respond to patient care needs.
  • Ability to work in a computerized environment that includes prolonged sitting and use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  • Cognitive ability to accurately observe, analyze, and interpret general and technical data both verbal and written to accurately communicate this information.
