Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the General Surgery Stepdown/Medical-Surgical Unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This role offers the opportunity to provide exceptional care to post-operative and medically complex surgical patients in a fast-paced academic medical center known for excellence in patient care, education, and innovation. Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients recovering from general surgical procedures and acute medical conditions. Perform thorough patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans. Monitor post-operative patients for changes in condition, complications, and recovery progress. Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately. Manage drains, wound care, pain control, and other post-surgical interventions. Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team. Educate patients and families regarding procedures, medications, recovery expectations, and discharge planning. Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state. Candidates do not need a West Virginia RN license in hand at the time of application. Licensure may be obtained prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility. Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Current BLS Certification required. Current ACLS Certification required. Minimum of 2 years of recent Stepdown, Progressive Care (PCU), Telemetry, Medical-Surgical, or Surgical nursing experience preferred. Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital is highly preferred. Excellent critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Important Assignment Requirements This is a contract position at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital. Local candidates will not be considered. Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment. Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to the start of the assignment.
