  • Location: Morgantown, West Virginia Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the Heart & Vascular Stepdown Unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This role provides the opportunity to care for a diverse population of cardiovascular and vascular patients in a high-acuity, fast-paced academic medical center. The ideal candidate is a skilled and confident nurse with strong telemetry and post-operative experience, capable of managing complex cardiac and vascular patients requiring close monitoring and progressive care.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with cardiac and vascular conditions in a stepdown setting. Perform thorough patient assessments, including continuous cardiac monitoring and hemodynamic evaluation. Care for patients recovering from cardiac and vascular procedures such as stent placements, bypass surgeries, valve procedures, aneurysm repairs, and other vascular interventions. Monitor for post-operative complications including bleeding, thrombosis, dysrhythmias, and perfusion changes. Administer medications, IV therapies, anticoagulants, and cardiac/vascular drips as ordered. Manage telemetry monitoring and respond appropriately to rhythm changes and clinical deterioration. Collaborate with cardiologists, vascular surgeons, hospitalists, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary care team. Educate patients and families on diagnoses, procedures, medications, mobility restrictions, and discharge planning. Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR). Follow all hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state. Candidates do not need a West Virginia RN license in hand at the time of application. Licensure may be obtained prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility. Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Current BLS Certification required. Current ACLS Certification required. Minimum of 2 years of recent Cardiac Stepdown, Vascular Stepdown, Progressive Care (PCU), Telemetry, or Acute Care nursing experience preferred. Experience with post-operative cardiac and/or vascular patients strongly preferred. Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital highly preferred. Strong critical thinking, cardiac assessment, and time-management skills. Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment. Important Assignment Requirements This is a contract position at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital. Local candidates will not be considered. Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment. Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to the start of the assignment.
