About the role

Provide quality nursing care to patients in the Special Procedures area and act as a liaison between the radiology department and nursing units. Responsibilities include administering moderate sedation, assisting radiologists with specialized X-ray procedures, and managing patient preparedness and recovery.

Job Summary

Responsible for providing quality nursing care to patients of the Special Procedures area while utilizing the nursing process, and acts as a liaison between the Special Procedures area and the nursing units to provide continuity of care and optimal communication.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including examination and treatment, under an approved protocol.
  • Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Educate patients/family regarding condition, treatment, discharge/transfer planning and follow-up examinations if needed.
  • Seek feedback from patients/family to evaluate understanding and document.
  • Utilize the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for a defined group of patients.
  • Review patient medical record, report abnormal findings to physician, interventional Radiologist and assess lab data to ensure patient preparedness for planned procedure.
  • Ensure signed consent has been obtained.
  • Monitor medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report to Nursing Supervisor, and Physician or designee any patient care problems, changes in condition or unexpected occurrences.
  • Assist radiologist with specialized procedures requiring the use of specialized X-ray equipment, as needed.
  • Anticipate and participate in emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Perform a variety of nursing skills in compliance with physician orders and established Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care.
  • Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
  • Administer Moderate Sedation in a controlled setting.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, inservices and/or reading journals.
  • Act as a liaison between X-ray department and nurses.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a minimum of three years job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI State Licensure is also required. Current BLS, ACLS, Moderate Sedation, and at least 3 years Critical Care/Spec Procedures experience is required.
