About the role

Provide in-home counseling and evidence-based mental health treatment to new parents to promote healthy child development and family wellbeing. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, treatment planning, and collaborating with the Pinellas County Health Department.

Healthy Families Therapist

Do you want to make an impact in the lives of new parents who are working to build a healthy home for their children? We provide in-home counseling to new parents who want to improve their lives and the lives of their children. The Healthy Families Therapist works closely with the Pinellas County Health Department home visitor program to coordinate care and promote healthy development for young children and wellbeing for their parents.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Graduation from an accredited graduate school with a Master’s degree in clinical social work, clinical psychology, mental health counseling or related human service field.

Licensure

Not required, registered intern pursuing licensure pursuant the provisions of Chapter 491, Florida Statutes as a social worker, mental health counselor, or marriage and family therapist preferred.

Experience

Experience in using evidence-based therapeutic interventions with adults and families, knowledge regarding the effects of violence on children, and use of effective strategies for crisis intervention and prevention. Home visiting experience preferred.

Therapist responsibilities include

  • Provide counseling to new parents experiencing family stress, mental health concerns and trauma to decrease the likelihood of abuse or neglect.
  • Complete mental health and psychosocial assessments as part of the diagnostic evaluation.
  • Provide evidence-based mental health treatment to clients either in person or via telehealth.
  • Conduct intakes, treatment planning, and psychotherapy services to diverse populations.
  • Provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy, as needed.
  • Complete and maintain documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide crisis intervention, as necessary.
  • Collaborate with agency and community partners for supervision, staffing, and team meetings.
  • Able to provide services in client homes, schools, and other community settings.
  • Develop and provide trainings to Healthy Department home visitors on working with high-risk families
  • Complete all documentation in accordance with agency and funder standards.
  • Maintains a productivity level in accordance with agency standards.
  • Available up to 3 evenings per week Monday thru Friday
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must have a negative drug screening prior to hire and throughout employment.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Check, local checks, and DCF Level II Background Screening prior to hire and annually (must be in compliance with Florida Laws and Administrative Codes with fingerprinting and determined to be of good moral character).
  • Must have valid Florida Driver’s License and pass motor vehicle checks prior to hire and annually with acceptable driving record maintained throughout employment along with reliable vehicle, valid registration, and valid vehicle insurance.
  • Working
  • Conditions: Must have valid Florida driver's license and a driving record that is acceptable to Suncoast Center; must meet minimum levels of personal automobile liability insurance; requires both indoor and outdoor work with outreach to off-site locations. Exposure to extreme heat and humidity during the summer months. Schedule may be irregular, based on client availability. Work is primarily off site in client family homes and community locations.
