We offer a comprehensive range of programs for children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders, helping individuals and families access the support they need to thrive. We are seeking a Jail-Based Therapist to provide behavioral health and substance use treatment services for individuals participating in the Hampton City Jail Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to support recovery, reduce barriers to successful reentry, and help individuals transition from incarceration to community-based care.

Required qualifications

Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling One year of clinical experience in a substance use disorder and/or correctional setting Must be eligible for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) supervision approval in Virginia within 30 days of hire.

  • What You'll Do As a Jail-Based Therapist, you will provide behavioral health and substance use services to individuals participating in the Hampton City Jail Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program.
  • Working closely with correctional staff, medical providers, and community partners, you will: Complete behavioral health and substance use assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and recovery-focused education.
  • Maintain timely documentation and electronic health records.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and connect individuals with community-based behavioral health, recovery, and reentry services.
  • Collaborate with the H-NNCSB Re-entry Coordinator, jail staff, medical providers, and community partners to support continuity of care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and support medication-assisted treatment (MAT/MOUD) services as appropriate.
