General summary

The Physician Practice, Staff Nurse is responsible to assess, plan, direct, administer, teach, and evaluate nursing care; to ensure quality and efficiency according to established policies and procedures, and especially the performance of job-related technical skills. Nurses will be required to manage the message center and enter data into EHR, evaluate OARRS reports and calculate medication due dates based on this report in addition to information obtained from physician plan of care. Nurses will be required to propose prescriptions to providers based on this information.

Essential functions

The triage nurse position is responsible for assisting the Patient Access Center in Triaging and scheduling patients to be seen in the office or in the ED.

Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.

Consistently demonstrates flexibility in adapting to changes in workload and assignments. Is able to perform duties beyond the scope of the normal workload. Regularly offers assistance to others in the order to complete workload.

Regularly perceives potential problem situations and intervenes to offset ad-verse impact. Demonstrates good judgment in use of corrective actions or alternatives in problem solving, and follows up with satisfactory prevention plan.

Demonstrates responsibility and accountability as their profession, practice and job dictates.

Makes effective decisions and takes immediate action in serious/emergency situations. Documents situation and rationale for decision on appropriate forms. Reports situation immediately to proper persons. Evaluates results of action taken.

Assists physician/provider with patient treatments. Offers support to patient and monitors patient as required.

Requirements

Candidates must possess the knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan. The role requires the ability to make immediate decisions in emergency situations and adapt to changing workloads.
