About the role

The Physical Therapist II evaluates and implements therapy programs for individuals with acquired or developmental disabilities. They are also responsible for developing clinical specialization protocols and supervising technicians and trainees.

Overview The Physical Therapist II will perform evaluation and subsequent planning, execution, delegation and supervision of therapy programs for persons with acquired or developmental disabilities. The incumbent will begin to demonstrate advanced proficiency in one or more areas of clinical specialization and will work with the leadership team to develop and implement staff training programs related to clinical specialization.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate and continue to develop advanced proficiency in one or more areas of clinical specialization. Propose and participate in the development of models for delivery of services related to clinical specialty including drafting policies and procedures, treatment protocols, and clinical practice guidelines. Review and interpret literature related to clinical specialization. With oversight from program leadership and senior staff, participate in the establishment of training programs and development of objective measures related to competency for clinical specialization. With oversight from program leadership and senior staff, participate in coordination specific program functions as assigned. This may include, but not be limited to, a student-training program, external continuing education programs, and staff training and orientation. With oversight from program leadership and senior staff, participate in coordinating and executing projects related to performance improvement. Evaluate/re-evaluate assigned patients using a variety of examination techniques including descriptive, quantitative, objective, standardized, reliable, and valid measurement tools. Execute patient plans of care using methods and procedures consistent with the Standards of Practice established by the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners of Maryland and within individual competency to perform. Appropriately delegate and communicate to Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) regarding plan of care. Ensure the competency of PTA and technician’s skill as it relates to specific delegation of interventions. Provide direct supervision of all technicians, aides, and trainees. Effectively communicate with patients, families, rehabilitation team members, case manager, and attending/referring physicians regarding patient’s plan of care. Provide instruction to caregivers regarding home and community programming. Complete all written documentation related to patient care. Ensure documentation consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) guidelines for documentation and in accordance with to both the policies and procedures of the Kennedy Krieger Institute department and the Laws and Regulations of the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners of Maryland. Actively participate in meetings and committees, to include execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Participate in staff meetings, supervisory meetings, and intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary conferences and training programs in cooperation with community agencies and programs. Assist in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Participate in planning and execution of programs for personal professional growth and development.

Qualifications

Must possess and maintain licensure to practice as a Physical Therapist in the state of Maryland. Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification. Continuing education or certification in Physical Therapy or a related field is preferred. EDUCATION: Master’s degree from an accredited school of physical therapy required. Doctorate degree highly preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years of experience working in a related Physical Therapy practice setting required. Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred. Minimum pay range USD $89,535.00/Yr. Maximum pay range USD $110,886.00/Yr.

Requirements

Candidates must have a Master's degree in physical therapy, a valid Maryland license, and CPR certification. A minimum of three years of experience in a related practice setting is required.
